  • P. S. - Oops!

\Because my recent post was so lengthy, I did forget a few things, which my hubby would say is from my getting older and he would also be offended as what I forgot was about him!! Oops!

My hubby works for a log export company and just recently went from being a loader operator (loads the logs on trucks and moves them around the log yard) to a log truck driver, mainly to save his body from being shaken to death riding around on the log yards rough terrain! He transports logs from the old sorting yard in Lewis and Clark to the Astoria Port docks, to be shipped out to Asia. The end of May there were several log trucks lined side by side after having been loaded at the sorting yard, and they were strapping down their logs and securing them. Jack was having a conversation with a friend of his in the adjoining log truck, they were back to back. Jack bent over to grab part of his log chain to tighten his load down, when the guy next to him flung his log chain up and over his load. The upward swing caught Jack in the side of the face and knocked him out! That was the least of his problems. The chain hit his glasses, cutting his cheek and nose, popping the lens out and smashing into his eye! A lot happened in the next 24 hours. I was called and picked him up from the log yard, mistake number one (he should have been transported by ambulance!). When we got to Columbia Memorial they wouldn't even come out and get him, even though I told them he was bleeding and had a head injury!! They really need a nurse with the paper-pushers behind the desk, they just pointed me to a wheelchair which I had to unfold to use- it was awful!! When we got into the emergency room, finally, they did a decent job of dealing with him, but they weren't very good at conveying information. With all the information they gave, they didn't say anything about a concussion, so when I asked they said of course that was a given, but that was the last time any one even addressed or dealt with until this past week, because we were confused and concerned about it because he was also having headaches, which we found out when Jack decided to go to the chiropractor, he also had whiplash! They told us before we left the emergency room that an opthamologist will probably want to do a follow up because it was an eye injury, so they called to set us up with an appointment. When they found out about the accident/injury, they requested we immediately go to Portland to OHSU emergency room! Freaked me out! Second mistake- they had me transport him to OHSU instead of an ambulance! OHSU was furious when they found out and an ambulance attendant at OHSU who helped me get him out of the car couldn't believe it! Jack became a oddity and had several doctors come and check him out, because he had an "interesting eye injury"! He was told later that the lens on his glasses did some damage when it popped out, but it probably also saved his eye from permanent damage of being ripped out of its socket! His eye was only a few pounds pressure away from permanent damage from the lens hitting the eye as it was! For the next 5 days he was completely restricted from any activity, including going for walks. Was told the only walking he could do was from a chair to the bathroom and back. If the eye started bleeding again he could loose the eye! Then his eye doctor released him to go back to work after only two weeks! But lucky for us his company was reluctant and so was the insurance company for workman's comp. This last week after the chiropractors assessment, we decided to make an appointment with his general doctor, which we were never advised to do. They were shocked and very disgusted with how poorly everything had been handled. A concussion should be allowed 4 to 6 weeks to heal before being released to go back to work! All said and done the doctor made sure to document and inform the insurance company. My hubby was finally released to go back to work, officially, day before yesterday. He is doing good and I am relieved to have him out of my hair, I don't get anything done when he is home! So to say the least, we have had more than our share of trials in the past couple months, but we have been pretty much holding it together because God IS still in charge and keeps us grounded and on an even keel! Having the Lord in our lives keeps us from being truly alone and we have the best comforter with us at all times and gets us through the trials. People who are not saved have that emptiness in their lives and no comfort during trials, which leads to their lives literally falling apart! Our testimony isn't just in that we got saved, but how we live our lives with Christ at our side through the good and bad!

    Thanks for listening!

  • Summer Has Begun- Finally!

Well I wasn't far off and it looks like quarterly posting just might be the ticket!
Things moved into high gear to prepare for Hannah's graduation from high school and AJ being promoted out of 8th grade and becoming an official high school freshman! Where is the time flying off to?!

I was on the committee with several other mothers who planned and prepared for our graduates "All Night Safe and Sober Celebration" We had numerous fund raisers and many local businesses donated various gifts and prizes for the out-going graduates. Spending money for 51 teenagers is a lot harder than you think!! We also decorated the gym for the ceremony and lined up a photographer and a videographer to document the nights events. We started the evening after graduation at 10:30 when the teens boarded a bus and wound their way through the little town of Warrenton with a police escort, with horns honking and teenagers hanging out windows and cheering! Their first stop was the Astoria Trolley house, where they were given a private ride along the Columbia River and then taken to the local bowling alley for a closed bowling party, which included pizza and beverages. They then left there at about one o'clock and headed to Tongue Point Job Corps Activity Center for a night of games, movies, food/candy and prizes. Did I mention that among the all night chaperones were my husband and I!! There was a little communication mix up and instead of heading home for a quick nap after dropping our daughter at the bus at 10:30 and then going to Tongue Point at one o'clock, we were on the schedule as chaperones at the bowling alley as well!! No sleep tonight! At about 6:30 the teens boarded the bus for a private breakfast at our wonderful own Serendipity's in Warrenton, no parents allowed, per the owner! Struggling to stay awake, the teens finished up and headed to the high school, where we distributed their gifts which were presented in a very large purple custom laundry bag with their class name and motto on the side (what college kid can't use a laundry bag which will eventually be filled and brought home when visiting mom and dad!). Then for our family and friends, per Hannah's request, since there really wasn't time for a get-together the night before, we had a picnic at Coffenbury Lake out at Ft. Stevens State Park. So instead of getting a quick nap after the "all nighter", I got to prepare for a picnic which Hannah was barely awake for, but there none the less. The weather was beautiful, considering even up until this past week weather has been very, very wet! It was also free fishing weekend so there were no fees at the park. Usually it is $3 per car, and the rangers DO check to see if you paid, so that was a added benefit. There weren't a lot of people there either so it was exceptionally nice. Then Alex and Tawsha left for Portland to visit family since they were headed to CA the middle of the week They left the grandkids with us, that was so awesome, that much more time to be with them. So Papaw and I had to make sure they got ice cream before we headed to bed, since Alex and Tawsha had promised them! I hit the pillow at 8:30 and AJ took over keeping an eye on them, because Hannah was useless (sound asleep!). Jack and I went from 6:30am Friday morning to 8:30pm Saturday night without a wink of sleep- I was exhausted! Then Sunday we went to early service and headed to Portland for a farewell family dinner with the "Burkharts" for Alex and his family, headed back home, since I was still working the coming week (school wasn't out yet, only for the seniors).
AJ had class on Monday and promotion practice on Tuesday for his big event on Tuesday evening. After promotion, we headed with family over to Astoria's Fultanos to celebrate both AJ's promotion and Kyle's birthday, so a "Candyland" birthday cake was in the works! I had to work, but on Monday after work, Suzy and I headed to Seaside to collect the necessary candy to decorate such a cake. Because I had to work, Hannah volunteered to constuct the thing. It turned out very interesting! Didn't quite look like "Candyland", but it had tons of candy on it. Guess there were a few glitches and the biggest one was that a "Super Moist" cake mix is NOT the way to go for this type of cake. Hannah had all kinds of trouble getting it out of the pan to create a sheet cake and wound up piecing it together, frosting it and adding the candy, which there was tons of, even had leftovers! Hannah did a great job and what the kids remembered the most was ALL the candy on the cake!
I worked until the 16th and Hannah volunteered with one of the first grade teachers as a helper that last day too. We left straight from work and headed to Portland to pick up my sister-in-law and headed to La Grande, OR to Eastern Oregon University's college days, Hannah's choice for getting her nursing degree! We stayed the night in Pendleton and went up to La Grande the next morning. The weather was gorgeous as well as the college campus. Hannah was so impressive she had everything taken care of and it was just a matter of exchanging a few final papers and she is all set for the fall term!! I am excited and nervous all at once. My oldest went into the military, but Hannah is headed to college. They both are leaving home, but college just seems a little scarier, or maybe because she is my little girl!? I now going to have just AJ at home, and I hope I survive him through high school! I think he is going to be my biggest challenge!

Alex took Tawsha and the my grandbabies and transfered back to TwentyNine Palms, CA! Don't get to see them as often and I am really missing them bunches! Kyle will be starting kindergarten this August (California starts school in August) and Heylia will be one of the smartest 2nd graders come this Fall! Guess they aren't babies any more. Hopefully we will get to go visit them come Thanksgiving, and have our Christmas at that time, since they will be in Indiana come this Christmas vacation. They headed to California June 15th and have already found a house, moving truck was there just a couple of days ago unloading. They ARE on base, which they hadn't really wanted to do, but the house is really nice. Tawsha is already getting things taken care of and making it feel like a home. Just need to bake cookies to make it smell good, eating them is not a bad side benefit either, right Tawsha! Grandbabies headed to Indiana on the 25th for the summer and will be back in August to start school. Hopefully Tawsha will have plenty to keep herself busy this summer. She is looking forward to a possible part-time job while they are in school, hopefully at coffee stand where the benefits are free coffees?! Save some of them free coffees for your favorite mother-in-law for when I visit!? Think this will start a rumor that she is working at a coffee place, when she hasn't even started looking yet?! haha
    Really miss them a lot!!

I have been having some health issue come up since my last blog as well. My hubby says because I am turning 50 this year that I am starting to fall apart! How rude! To make a long story short, I was in the middle of jury duty during the month of April. I got picked for a trial, which I wish I had been able to get out of. It was regarding child abuse and child pornography, made me sick, literally I got strep and had go to urgent care. The following week I had a bleeding problem and had to go to urgent care. Wound up having an upper and lower scope two days later and was told I have "ischemic colitis" and "hietal hernia" (sp?). Unexplained- ischemic colitis is the sudden or temporary loss of blood to the large intestine which can cause stomache cramps, diareah, vomiting, and blood in the bowels; all of which I experienced! Stress is a cause of mine, some people have to watch what they eat. This brought my general practitioner into the picture and I had to get some blood work done, then a second time it had to be redone because things were off and they needed to recheck. This past week I found out I have "hypothyroidism" and getting to take daily meds for that- great! I am falling apart! This prompted a road trip to Forks, WA with my dear friend Suzy and her very pregnant daughter, Michelle. While there this past weekend, my twin sister called and left a message on my cell at 8am in the morning. I am being redundant on purpose- this freaked my out! My sister is difficult to get a hold of before one in the afternoon! She had gone to work the night before at the bowling alley and was having extremely heavy bleeding and it was unmanageable, so she had to go to the emergency room. Long story short, she had to urgently go see a gynocologist a few days later. I went with her as well as her daughter and my oldest sister. Cindy does not take care of herself, she is saved though, thank the Lord! She hasn't had a pap in 30 years! She is anemic, on going heavy bleeding, a large growth on her cervix, her liver enzymes are off and she is very weak! They took 2 biopsys and has been told no work until next week when they get the results back. Dr says worst case is cancer, so please be in prayer for us all. God is still in charge and this could be a wakeup call for my sister!
This is quite lengthy, but I need to go for now. Thank you all for listening to a rambler and please pray for my sister! Love to you all!

  • Being Busy

I haven't been on here in a while, again! I tell myself each time that I will try to do this daily, okay, weekly, okay monthly, well how about quarterly?! Goodness, sometimes being busy is a good thing, but sometimes it is a curse.

I have been going to Ladies meetings at my sisters church. We go to a Baptist Church and they go to what is like a community Church. We are like minded and believe in Salvation by Grace. It was an opportunity to spend time with my sisters and grow in the Lord as well. We have been studying a book by Linda Dillow called "Calm My Anxious Heart". Our ladies have done books by Linda Dillow, one was "Creative Counterpart", so I was excited to read this one. This one is dealing with "contentment". A very good and necessary subject to deal with! This has been a very convicting and "just what the doctor ordered" for this very trying time in my life.

Years ago, a pastor friend of ours made a comment to me and it has nagged at the back of my heart for a long time. Nagged is exactly the word necessary to describe the uncertain, nagging questions that have tugged at my heart. The statement made was regarding what my gift was or to put it another way, what did I have to offer others that Christ wanted me to share. besides my testimony (which I have always thought was un-spectacular and far from convincing people that salvation was something spectacular to be had because just look at me?)? He said he thought he knew what it was, but never revealed it to me! That has nagged at my heart and mind for many years, and I never really came up with a true answer. I just wanted to ask, "WHAT IS IT?" My problem with that and I'm sure he knew, was that I am a people pleaser and if he had told me what "he" thought, that is what I would have done and it may not have been right. Remember he said he "thought he knew". The answer had to come from God. Duh! Some times I am soooo thick headed!

I have come to a point in my life to where I am somewhat happy, I think, or is it based on the worlds idea of what happy should be. It seems I am always searching for something- not salvation, already have that. But there is more to life than getting saved. What is my "purpose" in life?

The chapter in the book we dealt with this past week hit me smack on the head! Ouch! The title is "A Faulty Focus" which deals with being nearsighted and not in your eyesight but in your life focus. You don't know why your here ir where you are going other than salvation and heaven. Drifting here and there without a rudder. We must live as women who know the meaning and purpose of life. Too often we are living life by default, acting out a script handed to us by family, other people's agendas, and the pressures of circumstances. That is me, a people pleaser, swayed by others in the name of be helpful and considerate.

This poem by a 14 yr old was very convicting:

It was spring but it was summer I wanted; the warm days and the great outdoors.

It was summer but it was fall I wanted; the colorful leaves and the cool dry air.

It was fall but it was winter I wanted; the beautiful snow and the joy of the holiday season.

It was winter but it was spring I wanted; the warmth and the blossoming of nature.

I was a child but it was adulthood I wanted; the freedom and the respect.

I was twenty but it was thirty I wanted; to be mature and sophisticated.

I was middle-aged but it was twenty I wanted; the youth and the free spirit.

I was retired but it was middle-age that I wanted; the presence of mind without limitations.

My life was over but I never got what I wanted.

What a said testimony of a persons life!

A closer walk and relationship with Christ is a start in the right direction and you need a purpose statement that defines what you believe and where you want to be. Christ is the one that can help send you in the right direction and give you the answers. A verse that I have always wanted to claim as my own life verse, but never felt it was going to happen, is in Proverbs 31 (yes, the "always fleeting and mythical perfect woman that no one could ever be like" book!) Verse 28: "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her". As humans we always disappoint others, no matter how hard we try, but who are we to please, others? No, it is Christ's approval we should be seeking, His first and foremost! Get your priorities right and Christ helps with the rest.

Obviously I am not there yet, but I am hoping that I have finally nailed down my purpose and with Christ's help heading in the right direction, rather than aimlessly drifting in a sea of Christian's who are also struggling.

The very busyness of life can take your focus off of Christ and distract you from your real purpose, even though you seem to be going through the motions of what a Christian "should be doing". Satan if very subtle, and busyness can be more damaging to a Christians walk than a drug addiction, or alcohol, or some other sin that you can actually see and nail down to deal with!

Good luck for now and keep Christ in your life and seek His direction so your not floating aimlessly!

  • A New Year Has Begun!

It is the end of 2010 and the beginning of a new year, 2011!

So much has happened in the past several months, haven't posted since end of September 2010!

A dear friend of ours passed away in September, Pastor Albert Fare, who pastored in Brewster, WA. He is greatly missed and his dear wife, Melba, is missing him terribly.

I had commented about starting a new season of weekly bowling with George and Jonnie, such an awesome couple! Sadly George passed away in his sleep the latter part of October and we took several weeks off from bowling, it just wasn't the same. George was saved and now spending time with the Lord- lucky man! We had even considered backing out and not bowling any longer. Visited with George and Jonnie's children, which grew up in our youth group at a time when we were the youth leaders, awesome experience! They felt it was a necessity to continue bowling with Jonnie to keep her occupied, and Jim, one of her sons, is to be our new partner! He is improving every week and we enjoy each others company.

On the good news side, my hubby got the job working for a timber export company that he had been hoping for and he is doing great and loosing weight also. Since he sits in a machine alot that is really good news and good for him. He is watching what he eats and feeling so good about himself. I have also been doing Weight Watchers, which I had talked about, and loosing weight as well, just not as quickly as I had hoped. I have lost every week that I have weighed in, accept one, and the gain was very small and was gone the next week. The weekly weight lose has been small, but a lose no less. They say that is a good thing though, because it will stay off better. I will continue plug along and hope to see major results by the end of this year.

A week before Christmas my dear daughter-in-law's uncle passed away! A very tragic loss and he is greatly missed. She flew to Indiana to be with family during this loss and my son and grandbabies came to stay with us for a week.  My son did have to return to work after the weekend, but I got to keep the grandkids, on the promise that we would bring them home on Christmas Eve. I think is was a bit of blackmail to get us to come for Christmas! My daughter-in-law returned just a few days before Christmas. It was a bitter sweet Christmas, greatful to just get to be with family. Come next year grandkids will be with daddys, so we will do Thanksgiving with them, which will be in Yucca Valley, CA since my son recieved papers he will be stationed at TwentyNine Palms, CA again with the Marines come May/June 2011. Not looking forward to the increase in distance, the visits will be less frequent. Love my son and his family and will miss them greatly being so far away.

Working in the second grade has been rewarding and challenging. I am so greatful for the people that the Lord allows me to work with, otherwise I wouldn't know how to get through each week dealing with the world. Teaching has changed so much from past years, there is becoming less and less teaching and more and more disciplining and social work, so sad.

We are in the middle of a new remodel project again. My hubby had a few days off after Christmas and decided to rip out the tub/shower in our other bathroom and put in a new tub and ceramic tile surround. Eventually the floors and part way up the wall will be tiled, as well as a new toilet and vanity will be put in. Due to his busy job and hours he puts in it is a challenge for him to get things done on it, but he keeps plugging away at it. This past weekend, a friend from church did the plumbing part of the tub/shower, since my hubby decided to put in a shut-off by the tub, rather then having to run outside the house and shutting the whole houses water down (kind of like under the sink and toilet).

We are also getting a woodstove this summer! Finally! My hubby now has access to wood again from his job. Due to it being extremely green and wet, we wouldn't be able to use it this winter, so are shooting for next fall instead. I so miss having the wood heat and keep wondering why we waited so long, especially after the terrible storm we had in 2007 which left us without power for over a week! No electricity, no heat! Spent a lot of time at my sisters, who have wood heat, which you can also cook with! Very memorable experience! Keep my hubby busy working many hours, due to the nature of his occupation.

We are in full swing of basketball season! Both my children are playing, so far no conflict of schedules. This is Hannah's last year playing, she enjoys playing but when she gets to college she will concentrate on softball as her sport which she is very good at. Practice starts for softball soon, as well. AJ is over 6' and becoming a very good basketball player. He has grown into his height and become more coordinated. He still continues to struggle with his academics which hinge on whether he gets to play or not. At least he has a challenge that he is striving for because he does enjoy sports. Next comes baseball, which practices start soon.

Church is forging ahead and we are growing. We have had a baptism every Sunday this month!! So exciting! We are having souls saved and people joining the church. Pray we all continue to witness, souls are saved and added to our church. Our challenge right now is not enough parking during services. What a good challenge to have, so exciting!! We are going to see some challenges as Satan is not going to like what is going on! Be in prayer for us!

Will go for now, my goal is to try and post something at least once a month. We will see how that goes. I enjoy others blog posts and hope you all do well this year. Will talk at you later!

  • School Is In Full Swing!

Sorry it has been so long since blogging- August! Great news! I have a full time position at the school this year! This entitles me and my whole family to very good insurance- medical, dental, optical, pharmacy, and life! There is unfortunately a down side to this, I am basically working for insurance- my first paycheck was $35.00 after my portion of the premium was paid (Aug/Sept was a short month)! We do have insurance!

I am in the 2nd grade this year. Planning and preparing lunches is keeping me on my toes, everyone takes a lunch. I am also enjoying doing more planning and prepaing of other meals. I have really been in a mood to cook and bake these past few months and I have been enjoying it!

Please be in prayer for my hubby as he having serious issues with his flat feet. He has been diagnosed with "plantaur facia something or other", not really sure about the name or spelling! He is taking oral cortisone rather than the shots, which we have heard can be very painful! He is also taking pain meds from time to time because this condition is very painful when it flairs up. He also has a new job he has been looking at, where he will be operating equipment more and not so much manual labor required by construction. Hopefully he will get it, it will help with his painful flat feet condition.

AJ is now 6' tall, and still growing! Needs new shirts and pants already! Wears 34 x 36 pants!! He is doing great in school and staying on top of his school work. Please continue to pray for him in this area as it is a struggle for him academically.

Hannah is doing great in school as well and keeping very busy! She did get her license the first part of September and got it on the first try!! Hannah and Hayley both went with Teresa and I to the Ladies Conference in Puyallup, WA this year for the first time and we really enjoyed ourselves. The main speaker this year was Charlotte Birdsong, the pastors' wife from the church in Tillamook, OR. The theme this year was "Extreme Makeover", the break-a-way classes were dealing with marriage, family, and friendships. The girls went to the friendship class, and Teresa and I went to the marriage class. So happy the girls went this year and got somethings from it to take back home with them. We also enjoyed being with each other. We also had lunch with my oldest son and his family, which I can never get enough of, before we headed home on Saturday! Got to meet my fabulous daughter-in-law's mother for the first time, who was visiting WA for the first time. It was a very enjoyable lunch! Miss my son, daughter-in-law, and grandbabies very much!

My hubby and I are into another year of weely bowling  with George and Jonnie as our partners. It is an activitly that me and my hubby can do together without crippling ourselves and still be conpetative. We do have fun!

No school tomorrow because of state wide in-service. Will enjoy sleeping in a bit. Conferences next week, so another Friday off next week as well. Enjoying the fall weather, there is a nip in the air and it is soup weather! Love soup weather! Making homemade bread tomorrow and more chocolate chip cookies- yum yum yum! I am starting Weight Watchers in a few weeks- which by the way our insurance pays for!!! Isn't that awesome! They have figured out healthy people mean less insuance claims, so they are promoting things to help you get healthy!!! I am looking forward to feeling healthier and lighter.

Will go for now, getting sleepy and hopefully didn't say anything weird while under the influence of tiredness. Talk at you later!
